Free camping Musselroe Bay, a small town located in the far North-East of Tassie to the North and to the West of the Mt William National Park. The Musselroe Bay conservation area is popular for watersports with fishing, boating, camping and birdwatching popular with access to the North-West of the camping area via the Cape Portland Road (C844) from the small town of Gladstone. The Eastern section of Musselroe Bay, to the north of the Mt William National Park, is accessed via the C843 and C845 roads. Musselroe Bay is located some 150 kms, or just over 2-hours’ drive, north east of the second largest city in Tasmania, Launceston. The Musselroe Bay campground is located in the Eastern part of the Mt William National Park, some 25 kilometres north-east of Gladstone. The Musselroe Bay camping area is well marked on your left as your drive through the seaside coastal town of Musselroe Bay, which is mostly a shack community but with a small permanent population. The Musselroe Bay campground offers a number of open sites, and a few with shelter which is important to note as this part of Tassie is extremely windy for large parts of the year. There is a boat ramp located close by – take extreme care if boating at Musselroe Bay as the water can be unpredictable due to the weather patterns in the area. At Musselroe Bay the campground is suitable for motorhomes, campervans, camper trailers, big rigs and caravans. Existing fire sites must be used, and you must carry your own firewood. You must also carry your own fresh water – there are no facilities in Musselroe Bay, with Gladstone being the nearest town where basic supplies can be purchased. There is a basic pit toilet only at the Musselroe Bay campground. See also
