The first thing to note about going camping in Tasmania if you are considering taking your dog is that pets are strictly prohibited from entering Tasmania’s National Parks, and some conservation reserves. There are very good reasons why dogs can’t enter National Parks (service dogs are excepted) which relates to the risk they pose to Tasmania’s unique flora and fauna. Many campsites in Tasmania allow dogs on leads, and kept under control however unfortunately not everyone is a responsible dog owner and barking dogs, dogs roaming free continue to cause issues at campsites. Each campground and caravan listing on our website identifies whether dogs are allowed. In some instances, in particular, commercial caravan parks, owners reserve the right to allow or deny pets depending on different factors including time of year and type of dog. Our strong recommendation is to call in advance of going to a caravan park and check whether pets are allowed, before simply turning up and running the risk of being turned away. With regard to campgrounds, please carefully check each listing to see whether pets are allowed and don’t ever be tempted to take your dog to a campground where they are not allowed – you run the risk of either a fine or conflict with other campers. You may love your dog, but not everyone does and there are very clear reasons why dogs may not be allowed at certain Tasmanian campgrounds. See also: Dog-Friendly Camping: Dog-Friendly Caravan Parks
